The most extreme weather year in recorded history. During 2011 Texas has their lowest yearly rainfall on record also combined with their hottest summer ever recorded. At the same time, the Ohio Valley and Northeast had their wettest year on record.
Some yearly precip totals for 2011 include:
Cheviot, OH 74 inches; Cincinati - 70 inches ( old record was 65.2 in. in 1847 ); Cleveland - 62.4 inches; Columbus - 53 inches; Fernbank, OH 71 inches; Miamitown, OH 72 inches ( old records for Ohio are Little Mountain - 71 inches in 1870 and Mt Healthy - 72 inches in 1880;
Youngstown - 51 inches ( tie with 1911 ).
In Connecticut some totals include: Hartford - 67 inches.
In Pennsylvania some records include: Allentown - 69.7 inches; Harrisburg - 72 inches ( old record was 60 in. in 1863 ); Philadelphia - 62.3 inches ( old record - 61.2 in. in 1867 ); Williamsport - 68.4 inches ( old record of 61.3 in 1972 ).
In Kentucky some precip. totals include: Frankfort - 63.4 inches; Lexington - 66 inches; Louisville - 66 inches.
In New Jersey some totals included: Newark - 68 inches.
In New York some totals include: Binghampton - 66 inches ( old record 49 in. in 2006 ). IN Vermont some totals include: Burlington - 50 inches.
Many places had all time record high temperatures during 2011 which was the hottest summer in the U.S. since the alltime record of 1936. Some records include:
Gila Bend AZ ( 120 F ); Blythe CA ( 120 F ); Fairbanks AK ( 97 F on July 11 ); Newark NJ ( 108 F ).

The worst hurricane ever recorded struck New England and was estimated a Category 4 at eastern Long Island, then Category 3 as it passed over Rhode Island, Connecticutt and western Massachussetts. It was far worse than than the catastrophic 1938 "Long Island Express" hurricane. Forests of mature Oak/Hickory/Walnut were snapped and twisted. Homes were blown down and damage would still be visible 50 years later.
Hundreds of Native Americans and settlers were killed by the storm.
